An exciting Hollywood sci-fi action thriller
Looper stars Bruce Willis and Joseph Gordon-Levitt. The story written (and directed) by Rian Johnson, is about the year 2074 where time travel is invented, which is now used by criminal organizations for the sole motive – to send them back 30 years back and they are assassinated by Loopers.
So, in 2074, the time travel machine will be invented – but it will be illegal and only available on the black market. When the mob wants to get rid of someone, they will send their target 30 years into the past, where a “looper” – a hired gun, like Joe (Joseph Gordon-Levitt)- is waiting to mop up.
Exactly, Looper is a low level assassin who works for a mob in the future (in this case 2074) and their assignment is to kill each target they are sent back to 2044 and then dispose off their bodies.
After all, what better place to hide a body than in the past?
Loopers are equipped with GAT (a generic term used for a gun in the future. This GAT is a powerful, reliable and accurate arm which finished the person point blank.
Joe is a “Looper”, a hit man for the mob. Joe is getting rich and life is good until the day the mob decides to “close the loop,” sending back Joe's future self (Bruce Willis) for assassination. It is Joe in 2044 and then he gets to assassinate his future self – Bruce Willis in 2074.
By the year 2040, it is shown in the film that TK (Telekinetic power) has been developed in about 15 % of the general population. Far from being an additional sense / power, it isn’t powerful, yet useful for impressing people as a bar trick.
The story turns interesting as Bruce Willis of 2077 (the same Joe who is now thirty years older) has has seen the years and the mileage. But when the new gangsters in town try to “close his loop,” Joe (Bruce) will take matters into his own hands. He gives his younger self the slip – that is, Young Joe (Joseph Gordon-Levitt ) “lets his loop run” – and now, Old Joe is on the run from his past self and trying to change his future.
When Young Joe finds that his older self still knows a few tricks, he takes refuge at a remote farmhouse far from the city, where Sara (Emily Blunt) is caring for her young son. What Sara doesn't know is that she will play a key part in determining which way the future goes.
